Are you selling illegal or noxious fish and plants?

Remember that you can be breaking the law if you sell illegal and or noxious fish and/or plants on this website.
This is a very “Grey Area”.Please do your homework before placing your ad.

We have had a few ads lately selling known illegal fish. Our moderators will remove these ads when found.
If you are caught trading in illegal fish you could face a fine of up to $10,000. and/or a jail term.
Websites are monitored by the DPI and AQIS.
Please ask your LFS or ask on the forums etc… Contact your local department of wildlife.
Every state and territory has its own rules and regulation.
Check before you sell and check before you purchase.

Here are some relivant links: To what animals are either protected, illeagal or noxious.

Noxious aquatic species list, Victoria

*Note some of these list may not be the most current information and should be used as a guide.
However if you have fish listed as breaking these rules you may wish to seek information to correct way of dealing with them. (and avoid risks of fines, or jail sentances)

We had a random visit from DPI in our store yesterday.
They we checking up on retailers selling natives and possible noxious species.
I had a good chat with them (really nice and helpful officers). We discussed a few things, one of them being this website.
They acknowledged that they do check the ads on this site and that they do follow up on noxious species being sold here.
Please make sure that what you are selling is legal to trade and not on the noxious list.

Boronia Aquarium supports what the DPI are doing here in Victoria. We need to protect our native wildlife from harm weather it be from people taking native wildlife and selling it, or from the threat of damage caused by introduced species.

Boronia Aquarium has always had an open invitation to DPI, DSE & AQIS to visit our website or store.
Cooperating with these departments now, and doing the correct things now will result not only in protecting our native wildlife for the future but also reducing future regulations and costs for aquarium keeping.

If you are aware of someone trading in noxious species or trading in natives taken from the wild you can report them to the DPI on *PH: 13 FISH (13 3474).

*Note: This number is for DPI Victoria only.

Just a quick note to let everyone know that (Cabomba caroliniana) can no longer be sold, traded, swapped or given away in any form in Australia.
Until recently Cabomba was available for sale in Victoria, but as Victoria moves in line with the other states it has now been removed from sale here as well.

Please do your bit to show that we are a responsible industry and do not trade in this aquatic plant.
