Due to the limited species of Wild Bettas in the country and with the changes due shortly in regards to the importation of fish into Australia
I've started putting together a register for Wild Bettas.
The main goal behind this is to secure the number of Wild Betta species being kept in Australia and to try and ensure we don't lose the species
from our shores as we have already seen happy with Killifish.
The other aims of having the register are:
Encourage the sharing/exchange of genetic stock between breeders to keep the gene pool strong and pure (without hybridisation/cross-breeding)
To put those who are seeking wild bettas in contact with people already keeping/breeding species
Spread the species between keepers to ensure if a breeder loses his fish for whatever reason he has the capability to recover
Encourage the sharing and keeping of Wild Bettas with other fish keepers throughout Australia
The information I would like people to provide either via a PM, Posting Here or Emailing me is as follows:
Species Name
Region (If known or appropriate)
Number of fish (Males and Females)
Whether the fish are Wild Caught or Captive Bred

Now because you don't want to be spammed and I don't want any data being shared unless you have given permission, for the method of contact
I have done up the following suitable methods:
Provide keeper's Email details to requestor
Provide keeper's Forum/Userid to requestor
Provide keeper's Phone number to requestor
Provide all details to requestor
Advise keeper of request with contact details of requestor
Do not provide any details at all
The last one is if you're happy being on the list but you don't want to share that information, thats not a problem. I think we would rather
know the species is at least here and all informaiton will be kept confidential. IT Security is the industry I work in, its what I believe
in!

Okay, I haven't listed my phone number or email address here, but I have put those into the register. And for anybody requesting those I
will keep the email/pm details of the request/date and I'm happy to provide my email details to the person seeking betta macrostoma.
Going forward if I was to decide I could no longer maintain the register then it I would be happy to put it out to a vote for whomever has
registered on the register and a vote/decision will be taken. I want to keep this running as a neutral exchange of information and not tied
up with those with a commercial interest in the register.
