need urgent help please!

Hi,

I have 4ft African Cichlid tank and 3ft Discus tank:
Q1) How can i keep PH down (to approx. 6.5) in my discus tank. I am tired of buying PH down buffer and need some cheap solution for this problem. 6.8 - 7.6 is the PH of my tap water. I am not able to save much and can't afford to buy this every fort night.

Q2) I have set my heater on 26. for up to 1 month i had accurate 26 degrees and now the water temperature is showing 29-30. I have checked with...

hi i have had my tank for a while now and its always had a really bad dirt smell in the water i do regular water changes also another thing my water looks in ok condition but i like my water really crystal clean how to i achieve this i have two filters on each side of the glass and a big homemade diy filter the tank is a 4ft i was thinking of purchasing a canister but will that solve the problem all i want is really clear water and for it not to smell like dirt.

I've just started my first planted discus tank and the fish shop fellas were trying to sell me a c02 set up. Just wondering if c02 is necessary? Found a page for a DIY c02 and seems heaps cheaper than the 500 one they were pushing! But i'm not sure the difference between a reactor and a diffuser and is it also necessary to have a bubble counter? Does c02 have any effects on water parameters?

I have started a new tank its a 4x2x2 and have been using a seachem product called stability to establish the bio filter as per the directions of a 7 day treatment.
I originally had a high GH of around 24 degrees, which i managed to get down by doing water changes and getting out a lot of crap out of the tank, the substrate had been cleaned prior to being put in the tank but still seemed to have stuff in it.
The GH came down to 9 degrees which i was happy with and it was...

today in my planted tank with fish i noticed that 2 of my cherry shrimps have eggs on them. i think if i leave them in there when they hatch the neons and other small fish will eat them.
my questions are will the eggs be fertilised if i remove the shrimp from the tank? and how long does it take for them to hatch from the eggs under there tails?

i have just accidently tipped some bristle eggs out of a cave. didnt know they were in there and i have a sand bottom on my tank. most off the eggs got sand on them but i put them in a tumbler. could anyone have a guess at if any may survive. of course it wont happen again as i will check before i clean. thanks for your help

i just brecently bought a tri of pepps 1M about 12cm 2F about 10 - 11cm. i wanting to try and let them breed. They are in a standard 2ft tank glass bottom in african water. There are 3 terrecotta caves in there, is this to many? I am not sure on my water levels Ph Gh and so on, but going to the LFS tomorrow to get checked. I want to learn how to check water but tried once or twice and figured out color blindness does not help. There are no plants or other fish in tank but...

Hi all, i'm thinking of setting up a 4ft planted discus tank but thats as much as i know. Anybody have any opinions on what sort of lighting, substrate, sort of plants, is driftwood adviced and possible tankmates and filtration etc is good for discus? Any opinions welcomed.

Hi all, can anyone tell me if i can put driftwood in my tank that i collected from the murry river? i have highpressure cleaned the wood and i was told to soak it in a bucket for a month or more. Is this correct and would it be ok?

Hi all.
I have about ten bristlenose in my african tank and have heard you can feed them vegies. Just wondering what varity i can give them. I also have 2 bristles in a 2ft tank im am try to breed and have 8 electric yellow babies in this tank. lucky to be half centermeter big. will this effect the bristles breeding. i have driftwood and caves in there to.

I'm not sure but i think one of my lombardoi has bloat. Not entirely sure, but he's gasping a lot more and doesn't swim as much, and looks like a bloody goldfish cause he's that fat! That's the only symptoms i've noticed so far, none of the other fish has it and don't seem to be affected yet. Can anyone confirm/clarify on this and possibly give me a solution/cure??

hey guys

just new to the whole aquarium thing so just a noobish question

does it mater what colour gravel you chose??? i have pretty much a white setup atm with white gravel and have been advised its really not the best idea to have white gravel in a tank cause it will be too bright with the light on and stresses the fish.

is this true???

hi again, wanting to get my water changes spot on. i have the sea chem alk and acid buffers. have 75L tank. i change the water once a week in a 10L bucket. do i add the buffers according to the whole 75L into my 10L bucket, or just according to the 10 litres in the bucket? pretty novice stuff i know i apologise. i have been adding the same levels consistantly but i've noticed the kh (4) and gh (5) levels have dropped. Hi, my first and not last question.
I have a 760 litre tank. I am currently changing 150/180 litres every two weeks. (seems to be working with the amount of fish and filtration I have)
I change the water by hose directly into the tank and adding all chemicals to a bucket dissolving them and slowly adding to the tank as its fills.
I have been told this isn't the best way to do it.
Some suggestions have been filling a wheelie bin and adding chemicals to it then pump...

My tank's gone all cloudy due to an ammonia spike couple of weeks ago and had the water tested at the lfs 2 days ago and it was still up there (can't remember what the reading was). I've been changing bout 15-20% every 3 days to try to get rid of it and adding amrite and bacteria to the water but it's still very cloudy. Is there anything else i can do?
