Ok, I have put a couple of poor quality photos here, sorry but thats the best I could do with my phone.

It is some sort of catfish looks a bit like a cory but its about 25cms and has a big sailfin.

My sister gave me her tank and fish but couldnt tell me what it is. I could use some help.

gday, i just got a new new 55G tank and im looking to set it up this weekend. I have access to about 50 kg of basalt, slate and grannite as we recently did a big overhall of the garden. The rocks came from a combination of garden shops and a friends place up in the bush. Would these be useable in the tank, if so is there anything i should do b4 adding them ?

Hi can anyone please help me Ive just purchased all the testing gear (ph gh kh) testers aswell as the conditioning salts, carbonate hardness powder, AquaSafe water conditioner and the Stability bottle.
I have followed the guidelines for a 40cm x 30cm x 25cm height tank around about 28-30ltr Tank, added all the chemicals required and left for over 12 hours, i have tested the water ph was about 7.0 thats the easy one, But geting the kh and gh levels im unsure of i dont have a chart to tell...

How oftern do i need to clean my Canister filter?

just wondering if anyone knows where i can get some nice white sand, thats a relatively course grain so it wont wreck my canister filter impellers. i have tried my local bunnings and dahlsens, as well as a sand and soil place and all they have is brickies/play sand. i also managed to find some pool filter sand, but its grey. when i went to the sand and soil place, they said not to buy any sand as it probably has arsenic in it???? and to get it from a petshop.

I have 6 discus in my 3ft tank. It's 6 weeks i bought them. but 1 discus eats less...it eats like it is not interested in eating. as a result it's growth is getting stunted....others r grwoing bigger.

hi i have had my tank for a while now and its always had a really bad dirt smell in the water i do regular water changes also another thing my water looks in ok condition but i like my water really crystal clean how to i achieve this i have two filters on each side of the glass and a big homemade diy filter the tank is a 4ft i was thinking of purchasing a canister but will that solve the problem all i want is really clear water and for it not to smell like dirt.

I've just started my first planted discus tank and the fish shop fellas were trying to sell me a c02 set up. Just wondering if c02 is necessary? Found a page for a DIY c02 and seems heaps cheaper than the 500 one they were pushing! But i'm not sure the difference between a reactor and a diffuser and is it also necessary to have a bubble counter? Does c02 have any effects on water parameters?

I have started a new tank its a 4x2x2 and have been using a seachem product called stability to establish the bio filter as per the directions of a 7 day treatment.
I originally had a high GH of around 24 degrees, which i managed to get down by doing water changes and getting out a lot of crap out of the tank, the substrate had been cleaned prior to being put in the tank but still seemed to have stuff in it.
The GH came down to 9 degrees which i was happy with and it was...

today in my planted tank with fish i noticed that 2 of my cherry shrimps have eggs on them. i think if i leave them in there when they hatch the neons and other small fish will eat them.
my questions are will the eggs be fertilised if i remove the shrimp from the tank? and how long does it take for them to hatch from the eggs under there tails?

i have just accidently tipped some bristle eggs out of a cave. didnt know they were in there and i have a sand bottom on my tank. most off the eggs got sand on them but i put them in a tumbler. could anyone have a guess at if any may survive. of course it wont happen again as i will check before i clean. thanks for your help

i just brecently bought a tri of pepps 1M about 12cm 2F about 10 - 11cm. i wanting to try and let them breed. They are in a standard 2ft tank glass bottom in african water. There are 3 terrecotta caves in there, is this to many? I am not sure on my water levels Ph Gh and so on, but going to the LFS tomorrow to get checked. Hi all, can anyone tell me if i can put driftwood in my tank that i collected from the murry river? i have highpressure cleaned the wood and i was told to soak it in a bucket for a month or more. Is this correct and would it be ok?

Hi all.
I have about ten bristlenose in my african tank and have heard you can feed them vegies. Just wondering what varity i can give them. I also have 2 bristles in a 2ft tank im am try to breed and have 8 electric yellow babies in this tank. lucky to be half centermeter big. will this effect the bristles breeding. i have driftwood and caves in there to.

I'm not sure but i think one of my lombardoi has bloat. Not entirely sure, but he's gasping a lot more and doesn't swim as much, and looks like a bloody goldfish cause he's that fat! That's the only symptoms i've noticed so far, none of the other fish has it and don't seem to be affected yet. Can anyone confirm/clarify on this and possibly give me a solution/cure??
