Boronia I know you recently had problems with your website but are you aware that your downloads (care sheets) appear to be off-line.

I have attempted to direct a couple of new hobbyists to them over the last 48 hours but they aint there. If you just wish to put up the goldfish sheet, I will be more than happy

Wondering if any LFS in Melbourne that will bring in fish (from Bayfish Melbourne) that you willing to pay in advance for? This is regardless of what the LFS thinks the fish look like - some hobbyists love ugly, small fish (I am talking about legal fish).

Rip out a planted tank?

I thuink I would be the last person to consider ripping out a planted tank (and the cost and effort involved in settuing up such a tank) in the event of a power failure to a tank during the warm weather.

I would prefer to do partial water changes and otherwise agitate the water to keep oxygen in the water and the fish alive before I set about destroying the aquascaping. My personal belief is that such drastic measures are not called for, provided one does properly maintain the tank...

Fish care sheets - they would be wonderful..

It would be wonderful if the industry could put out fish care sheets covering the different major species of fish. It would certainly help hobbyists in caring for fish that they acquire. I would be even willing to help with writing a few care sheets.

There are a number of Australian care sheets around where errors in the sheets make me shudder - for example:
- Aphysemion killifish are largely annual fish (oh, yeah)
- Bettas should be kept at temperatures above 18C...

Electricity v Gas

I am currently heatring my fish-room (old garage) with an electric heater. Time has come for a full renovation.

Wondering if people find gas cheaper to operate than electricity. What kind of gas heater are people using? Or are solar panels an alternative option?

I have noticed over the last 12-18 months that the good old standard 2ft fish tank is now disappearing and being replaced by much higher quality aquarium tanks. Wish the hobby would remember there are those hobbyists who are very much into dwarf cichlids (and other dwarf fish) and the old style 2 footer is a wonderful home.

Well my whinge is now over...

Saw for sale in a petshop locally (not a LFS) - a four inch cube box (must hold about a litre), with no filtration, aeration or heater included. Stated that Bettas will live at room temperature - well maybe until next winter in Melbourne.

Stated that bettas are short lived fish but are very hardy.

Arent there any regulations regarding minimal conditions for keeping of fish???
